Sayan Ghosh Academy: Fostering Classical Music Excellence
Sayan Ghosh began his journey as a music teacher in 2015 while working in the multimedia industry. In 2021, he left his job to focus entirely on teaching, founding the Sayan Ghosh Academy. The academy now has two branches: one in his hometown of Konnagar (Hooghly district) and another in Dum Dum (Kolkata), providing a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students aged 3 to 80.
Sayan combines group learning with individual care, ensuring that each student receives guidance suited to their abilities and goals. He actively encourages his students to participate in stage performances and attend music events, helping them build both confidence and experience.
Teaching Philosophy – The Guru-Shishya Parampara
The academy follows the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara. In this approach, learning is passed down through a bond between teacher and student. Sayan guides his students with patience and understanding, helping them overcome challenges and grow steadily in their musical path. Classes are conducted in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, where each student's progress is carefully monitored.
Online Sitar Classes for Global Students
Sayan also offers one-on-one online sitar lessons, allowing students from any part of the world to learn directly from him. These classes are structured to maintain the personal connection of traditional learning while using modern technology.
Academic Activities and Initiatives
The academy regularly organizes creative projects and learning initiatives to promote Indian classical music and the sitar.
Raga Avvyas Sessions
These are sitar practice sessions where students perform solo pieces. Recordings of these sessions are published on the Academy’s YouTube channel for public viewing and documentation.
Annual Music Projects
Each year, students from both offline and online batches take part in collaborative projects. In 2024, the academy launched a large-scale initiative called Basant Bandana, featuring performances from multiple students. The entire project is available on the academy’s YouTube channel.
Performance Opportunities
Students are regularly encouraged to perform on stage, helping them overcome nervousness and develop their presence as performers. These experiences serve as important milestones for students as they progress in their musical journey.
