আজ নতুন এর খাতায় নাম লিখাতে এসেছি,
পুরনো যত কলঙ্ক মুছে যাবে আজ,
আর আছে জীবনের যত গ্লানি
তোমার স্নেহের স্পর্শে হয়ে যাবে ম্লান।

আবার এক চৈত্রের বিষন্ন বিদায় বেলায়,
বৈশাখের প্রথম পত্র উড়ে এসে,
বলেছিল-”মুক্ত হল তোমার দ্বার”।

পৃথিবীর সমস্ত যন্ত্রণা হতে মুক্তি পাবো আজ,
কি উল্লাস সেই।
নতুন করে বাঁচবো আমি বৈশাখের শুভক্ষণে।
সে যে ডাক দিয়েছে মুক্ত হওয়ার।
নিয়মের যত শৃঙ্খল ভেঙে দাও আজ।
ভেঙে দাও বারবার।

English Translation

Pohela Boishakh

Today, I come to inscribe my name upon the ledger of the new,
As the stains of yesteryears dissolve into oblivion.
All the burdens that time hath bestowed upon my soul
Shall wane beneath the tender touch of thy grace.

As the melancholic dusk of Chaitra fades into memory,
The first breath of Boishakh arrives, whispering—
"Behold, thy doors stand open to freedom!"

Today, I shall be unshackled from the sorrows of the world,
Oh, what an ecstasy divine!
In this sacred moment of Boishakh’s embrace,
Life shall begin anew,
For it calls upon me to break free—
To shatter the chains of convention,
Again and yet again!
