নির্ঝর তমাল দলে             নিভৃতে তিতাস নদে
            গাঙের অচলা নদীবাঁকে।
হায়রে পাষাণী             নদী কিরুপে বলিব তোরে
            জীবনের প্রতি ক্ষণে ক্ষণে।।


জীবন যৌবন রোষে             রৌদ্র প্রখর দাহে
            নিত্যদিন জ্বলিতেছি আমি।
যাতনার মায়ামোহে             নিঃশেষ করিছে সবি
            অবশিষ্ট রহিবে না কিছু।।


শোকানলে দহি যাই             ক্ষুধা,তৃষা নাশি হায়
            দিবারাতি তাহার মুরতি।
গোধুলি সোপান তলে             স্নিগ্ধ নিশার ডাকে
            রূপময়ী হে অমৃতশশী।।


প্রেমালোক স্বর্ণদীপে             জ্বালিয়া হৃদয়ে দহি
            না চাই করিতে নির্বাপিত।
অশেষ গঞ্জনা সহি             নিয়তির প্রান্তরে
            দহি তবু না মরি এ ভবে।।

English Translation

Titas
Sayan Ghosh

Beneath the whispering tamal shade,
In silent bends where Titas sways,
O river, unyielding, still and staid,
How shall I name thee through life's days?

In youth’s fierce wrath, the blazing air,
Each moment scorches with its fire.
Illusions of pain, a fate unfair,
Will leave no trace, no ash entire.

In sorrow’s blaze, consumed, undone,
Hunger and thirst know ceaseless woe.
Yet twilight calls when day is gone,
O moon of nectar’s tender glow!

Love’s golden lamp, it burns in me,
Yet I seek not its light to quell.
Through fate’s cruel scorn, unceasingly,
I burn, yet live this earthly spell.
